CAM Advisor on European Affairs Shannon Seban issued the following statement on Friday on France’s announced plan to recognize Palestinian statehood at the United Nations General Assembly in September:
“French recognition of Palestinian statehood at this fraught moment in history — with Hamas still in power and holding Israeli hostages in Gaza, and the unprecedented post-October 7th surge of antisemitism reaching new heights across the globe — would mark a dangerous reward for terrorism.”
“It would also only further encourage the Palestinian intransigence that has served as the main obstacle to a lasting peace for decades now. France would be wise to reconsider this irresponsible move before September.”
