An Alabama man was arrested on Monday after law enforcement agencies were notified of “credible threats of violence made against multiple synagogues throughout Alabama and surrounding states,” the Clarke County Sheriffs Office said.
The suspect was identified as 33-year-old Jeremy Wayne Shoemaker, of Needham, Alabama.
“The subject was taken into custody along with weapons, more than a suitcase full of ammo, body armor and other items related to the plans of violence,” the police statement said. “Further investigation revealed that the subject had intentions of not being taken alive and was possibly planning attacks on public figures as well.”

Monday marked the seventh anniversary of the Pittsburgh synagogue massacre, the worst-ever antisemitic attack in U.S. history, and the Alabama arrest underscored the ongoing extremist threats facing Jewish communities.
Seven years ago today, a terrorist murdered 11 Jews at the Tree of Life synagogue in Pittsburgh, and wounded many others, in the deadliest antisemitic attack in the U.S.
