Amnesty International Researcher Uses ‘Influence’ Trope to Defend Report Accusing Israel of ‘Apartheid’

In an interview published on Wednesday, Amnesty International Middle East and North Africa Research and Advocacy Director Philip Luther used an antisemitic trope about Israeli “influence” as he sought to defend his organization’s widely-pilloried report released earlier this week that accused the Jewish state of practicing “apartheid.”

Speaking with Times of Israel reporter Lazar Berman, Luther asserted that Israel had “managed to shut down scrutiny” of its treatment of the Palestinians “using the power of its relationships.”

For example, at the UN, Luther charged, Israel had “influence over powerful allies who then manage to stop it, stop the scrutiny.”

Commenting on Luther’s remarks, Combat Antisemitism Movement (CAM) CEO Sacha Roytman Dratwa said, “Just need to change Israel with Jews and you have a classic antisemitic conspiracy theory accusing Jews of dominating the world.”

“This is how contemporary antisemitism looks like,” he added.

The Amnesty International report perverts history, holds the Jewish state to double standards not applied to any other nation in the word, ignores the crimes of Palestinian terrorist organizations against Israeli civilians, and portrays Israel’s mere existence as the sole obstacle to Middle East peace.

Read more here about how the CAM coalition has jumped into action to reject the slanderous Amnesty International report and counter the false anti-Israel narratives driving global discourse.
