Anti-Israeli students in the UK are planning a procession on the third anniversary of the October 7th massacre, beginning at King’s College London, before heading to the London School of Economics, University College London and SOAS University of London.
Flyers posted online brand the war in Gaza a “genocide,” and organizers call it “only the most recent form of genocide inflicted on the Palestinian people.” They also accuse the British government, universities and businesses of complicity.
The “genocide” charge is a modern permutation of the blood libel, the medieval lie that Jews murdered Christian children, now aimed at a Jewish state fighting the terrorists behind October 7th.
Raphi Leon, president of the Union of Jewish Students, said, “There are 365 days of the year. The decision to protest on this day is provocative, deliberate, and must be condemned to the fullest extent.”
Brad Blitz of the Intra-Communal Professorial Group, which represents academic staff, warned that the event risked normalizing support for Hamas. “Celebrating the terrorists that perpetrated the worst attacks on the Jewish people since the Holocaust is despicable,” he said.
A similar rally covered much of the same ground last year, and then-Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer urged its cancellation, writing in The Times that holding it on that date was “un-British.”
The Metropolitan Police said officers are in contact with those behind the demonstration and acknowledged it would worry “many Londoners, particularly the capital’s Jewish communities.” The Crime and Policing Act 2026 has since added powers addressing the cumulative impact of repeated protests.
