Police in Southern California are investigating a suspected antisemitic drive-by shooting at a Jewish family’s home in Redlands that was visibly decorated for Hanukkah
The incident occurred over the weekend, shortly after the family returned home from dinner. According to the homeowner, a man sitting in a nearby parked car shouted antisemitic abuse as the family entered the house. Minutes later, the vehicle drove past the residence, and the driver fired multiple projectiles toward the home.
The homeowner, Jonpaul Sione Yohanan Cohen, said his home security camera recorded the attack. He said the footage shows the suspect firing about 20 rounds from the car while shouting explicit antisemitic slurs, including “f*** the Jews.”
Several projectiles struck the house and nearby Hanukkah decorations. No one inside the home was injured.

Police Investigating, Suspect Still at Large
Redlands police confirmed they were investigating the incident. Officers found no shell casings at the scene. Investigators therefore believe the weapon may have been an Airsoft gun or another projectile device. Authorities have not made an arrest.
Cohen said the family believed the attacker targeted the home because it was clearly identifiable as Jewish. The exterior displayed illuminated Hanukkah signs and Jewish symbols.
The incident occurred as Jewish communities worldwide began marking Hanukkah, which started on Sunday evening. At Bondi Beach in Australia, 15 people were murdered in a shooting attack at a menorah-lighting ceremony celebrating the first night of Hanukkah.
Increased Patrols Around Jewish Sites
Following the reported shooting, law enforcement in Riverside County announced increased patrols near Jewish institutions and Hanukkah events.
“We are aware of the shooting and police will be driving by locations of interest throughout Riverside,” a Riverside Police Department dispatcher told City News Service.
As the investigation continues, the Redlands attack highlights the urgent need to confront antisemitism clearly and without hesitation — especially during moments meant to celebrate Jewish life.
