Antisemitic Vandal Targets Five Jewish Sites in London in Just Over a Week

A disturbing wave of antisemitic attacks has struck the Golders Green neighborhood in north London.

Over the past week, a vandal smeared excrement and threw urine at synagogues, a Jewish school, and private property. The Metropolitan Police and North West London Shomrim said the same perpetrator carried out the crimes.

On Sunday, the attacker hurled liquid — reported to be urine — at a Jewish primary school. Police are investigating the case as a religiously-motivated hate crime. Meanwhile, Shomrim said officers increased their presence at the school, and the institution introduced extra security to protect students.

Synagogues Targeted and Desecrated

Police first learned of the spree last Wednesday, when feces covered the walls and entry system of a synagogue. Soon after, Shomrim reported that the attacker had struck another synagogue the previous day.

Over the following days, the offender hit two more synagogues, a private home, and a passageway used by worshipers. Notably, one synagogue endured two strikes in less than a week.

“With five confirmed attacks in just over a week, it is clear that this is a deliberate and targeted campaign of antisemitic hate,” Shomrim stated. “Our community will not be intimidated, and Shomrim is working hand in hand with the police to ensure this individual is caught and brought to justice.”

Police and Political Leaders Respond

Detective Superintendent Tony Bellis condemned the crimes as “revolting and appalling” and urged the public to help identify the offender. He added, “We are very aware of how distressing this must have been for those who use the synagogues. We will not tolerate this kind of behavior.”

Meanwhile, Finchley and Golders Green MP Sarah Sackman visited a vandalized synagogue to show solidarity. She called the school attack “sickening” and pledged to keep working with police until they catch the offender. Additionally, the Jewish Leadership Council demanded that those responsible face the full force of the law.

Separate Antisemitic Incident

On Tuesday, Shomrim detained a man who shouted antisemitic abuse in the street, and police arrested him soon after. However, authorities said this case did not relate to the synagogue and school vandalism.

Nevertheless, the verbal abuse underscored the hostile climate and marked the sixth antisemitic crime in Golders Green in just over a week. Shomrim stated: “This is now the sixth antisemitic incident locally in just over a week. Whether verbal abuse on the street or desecration of synagogues, it is all part of the same hatred that our community faces. Shomrim will continue to act quickly to protect the public and work with police to ensure offenders are brought to justice.”
