A Belgian radiologist is facing criticism after labeling a child’s Jewish identity as a “current problem” on an emergency medical record.
The incident took place at AZ Zeno Campus Knokke-Heist hospital. Dr. Qassim Arkawazy treated a nine-year-old girl with trauma pain in her left forearm after a fall. In addition to describing the injury, he added: “Jewish (Israeli).”
Echoes of Pre-Holocaust Europe
The report, first shared in censored form on social media, quickly drew outrage. Commentators stressed that marking Jewish identity as a medical issue recalls the discriminatory practices of the 1930s. That era saw Jews targeted, cataloged, and stigmatized long before the Holocaust.
Observers warned that the doctor’s note risks reviving the same rhetoric that dehumanized Europe’s Jews and opened the door to mass persecution.
Antisemitic Content Found on Doctor’s Social Media
The case drew further scrutiny when open-source researcher SwordofSalomon linked Arkawazy to antisemitic content on Facebook. Among the findings was an AI-generated image showing Hasidic Jews as vampires about to eat a baby. Another post depicted decapitated infants impaled by a Star of David.
Although Arkawazy deleted the content once exposed, screenshots continued circulating online. The images fueled public alarm over his conduct and raised concerns about bias in patient care.
