Bomb threats forced the evacuation of two Orthodox Jewish schools in Brooklyn on Friday morning, including the Yeshivah of Flatbush.
“At this time, there’s no threat,” the NYPD told JNS, adding that the investigation was ongoing. Students had reportedly returned to their classrooms.
The department said officers responded to the Flatbush school, a Modern Orthodox institution, and minutes later to a second Jewish school it did not name. The Flatbush school told police the threat came by phone.
The NYPD said its emergency service and K-9 units responded and conducted searches. No injuries or arrests have been reported.
The Yeshivah of Flatbush notified parents of the threat and asked them not to approach the building, so police and security personnel could handle the response.
Moshe Spern, president of United Jewish Teachers, told JNS that similar threats on Tuesday affected five public schools in Jewish neighborhoods.
Spern said the timing is no coincidence, citing New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s October 7th anniversary statement, which leaders of major Jewish organizations have said endangers Jews. He also faulted Mamdani for “not condemning the intifada pro-Hamas chants.”
