A Combat Antisemitism Movement (CAM) delegation visited Mexico City last week as part of continuing outreach and engagement in Mexico and across Latin America.
The delegation, led by CAM Director of Hispanic Affairs Shay Salamon, attended the inaugural Latin American Forum of Zionist Federations, organized by Dr. Moises Mitrani. Other participants included Israeli representatives of the World Zionist Organization.
A meeting was also held with Israeli Ambassador to Mexico Einat Kranz Neiger. Salamon condemned the recent violent anti-Israel demonstrations outside the embassy, which remains defaced with antisemitic graffiti.
Other meetings included sit-downs with officials from the Comité Central de la Comunidad JudÃa de México (CCCJM), Tribuna Israelita (Jewish Forum), WIZO Mexico, the Jewish Agency for Israel, and Keren Hayesod-United Israel Appeal.
Furthermore, Salamon met with numerous Christian religious leaders and organizational figures, including representatives of the International Christian Embassy Jerusalem (ICEJ), Christian Church of Jerusalem, and Pastors of Mexico, to discuss collaborative interfaith work.
A top agenda item at all of these meetings was the fifth annual Latin America-Israel Forum that CAM is planning to hold in Mexico in the first half of 2025.
Salamon also spoke at a CAM-sponsored conference for Israeli entrepreneurs in Mexico, organized in partnership with Consul of Israel in Mexico Lior Batsov.
The delegation’s itinerary further included a tour of Mexico City’s new Holocaust museum, where CAM’s “No Discriminarás” (“Thou Shall Not Discriminate”) traveling art exhibit will go on display on January 27, 2025.
Earlier this year, in mid-March, CAM made its first-ever official visit to Mexico, with Salamon and CAM Advisory Board for Latin America Chair Pilar Rahola traveling to Mexico City for three days of meetings and communal events, in coordination with WIZO Mexico.
CAM’s outreach in Latin America began three years ago, and since then it has worked diligently to build meaningful partnerships and friendships with influential leaders, lawmakers, diplomats, community organizations, and civil society activists from a diverse assortment of religious, political and cultural backgrounds in the region to combat antisemitism together.
During this time, CAM en Español has emerged as a key player in the battle against Jew-hatred in Latin America, with a growing coalition involved in impactful activities in countries including Uruguay, Brazil, Argentina, Colombia, Panama, Guatemala, and Mexico, among others.
CAM en Español has organized regional summits hosted by Uruguay in 2023, Panama in 2022, and Guatemala in 2021.
