A CAM en Español delegation visited Miami, Florida, last week as part of an ongoing outreach campaign to Hispanic Americans.

The delegation included CAM Director of Hispanic Affairs Shay Salamon and Catalan journalist and Chair of the CAM Advisory Board for Latin America Pilar Rahola, and came a month after a similar tour of San Diego, California. Other recent CAM en Español activities include a two-day Mexico trip and the fourth-annual Latin American Forum Against Antisemitism in San José, Costa Rica.

While in Miami, Salamon and Rahola participated in a series of communal events, face-to-face meetings, and media interviews, including a sit-down organized by the Yedidim Foundation with a group of Israeli soldiers of American origin and a Rosh Chodesh gathering led by Alicia Margulis of the Latin American Task Force (LATF).

On the second day of the trip, more than 600 people — including Aventura Mayor Howard Weinberg and World Union for Progressive Journalism (WUPJ) President and Former Argentine Minister of the Environment and Sustainable Development Rabbi Sergio Bergman — participated an event at the Aventura Turnberry Jewish Center & Tauber Academy, where Mayor Weinberg presented Rahola with a proclamation declaring January 7, 2025 as “Pilar Rahola Day” in Aventura.

The itinerary also featured a special interfaith gathering of more than 100 rabbis, pastors, and local community members organized by Yovel-Beit Aviad, Kulanu, and CAM en Español. The event was titled “Israel After October 7,” and was highlighted by a discussion with Rahola moderated by Salamon.

The audience also heard Nova music festival massacre survivor and CAM Public Affairs Officer Natalie Sanandaji share her story of narrowing escaping death on October 7.

Other participants included: Pastors Raúl Rubio and Viviana Valbuena, from Kehilat Yovel; Pastor Reinaldo Prato, from Kehilat Beit Aviad – Miami; Pastor Adán Ben Joshua; and Alicia Margulis, from Latin American Task Force (LATF).

The Miami visit concluded with forums at the Interamerican Institute for Democracy and Bet Am Community.

“It was a pleasure to have this significant visit to Miami,” Salamon, who is based in Uruguay, stated. “I am continually amazed by the way the Latino Jewish communities in the United States are organized, preserving Latino Jewish culture and continuing to be Zionist and active. I believe that we must continue to work and strengthen these communities in order to combat the rising antisemitism among Hispanics in the United States.”

CAM’s outreach in Latin America began three years ago, and since then it has worked diligently to build meaningful partnerships and friendships with influential leaders, lawmakers, diplomats, community organizations, and civil society activists from a diverse assortment of religious, political and cultural backgrounds in the region to combat antisemitism together.

During this time, CAM en Español has emerged as a key player in the battle against Jew-hatred in Latin America, with a growing coalition involved in impactful activities in countries including Uruguay, Brazil, Argentina, Colombia, Panama, Guatemala, Mexico, and Costa Rica, among others.

CAM en Español has organized regional summits hosted by Costa Rica in 2024, Uruguay in 2023, Panama in 2022, and Guatemala in 2021.
