CAM Leaders Speak on Holistic Approaches to Fighting Anti-Semitism at UN Alliance of Civilizations Event
Combat Anti-Semitism Movement (CAM) Executive Director Sacha Roytman-Dratwa, two CAM Advisory Board members, Lord John Mann and Lord Eric Pickles, and CAM Senior Advisor Robert Singer were among the participants on Monday in a special meeting of the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC).
The online gathering — held under the banner of “Exploring Holistic Approaches to Combating Antisemitism” — was hosted by UN High-Representative Miguel Morantinos and featured remarks from more than two dozen representatives of entities involved in fighting anti-Semitism.
Lord Mann, the UK’s independent adviser on anti-Semitism, and Lord Pickles, the UK’s special envoy for post-Holocaust issues, shared their visions on how state actors can better combat anti-Semitism, and Singer, the chairman of the Center for Jewish Impact, spoke on the challenges that must be dealt with in the contemporary struggle against Jew-hatred.
During a session titled “Creating Synergies and Exploring Means of Enhancing a System-Wide Response to Antisemitism,” Roytman-Dratwa said, “To take advantage of synergy, there must be a common vision — and this vision, my friends, exists in the UN Charter, which was signed on June 26, 1945 by 46 first member states. Article 1 states that a goal of the UN was to ‘develop friendly relations among nations based on respect for the principle of equal rights and self-determination of peoples and to take other appropriate measures to strengthen universal peace.’”
Roytman-Dratwa also called for attention to be paid to policy implementation globally and nationally, as well as at the local level, where, he said, Jews were “most vulnerable.”
“We see a growing gap between excellent policies, some of which we heard about today, and their application on the ground,” Roytman-Dratwa pointed out.
