The Steering Committee of the European Coalition of Cities Against Racism (ECCAR) convened in Botkyrka, Sweden, near Stockholm, last week, bringing together deputy mayors and equity officers from more than 30 cities across the continent, including Berlin, Oslo, Malmö, and Lausanne, among others.
The Combat Antisemitism Movement (CAM) was represented at the gathering by Director of European Affairs Oriana Marie Krüger, who gave a presentation on CAM’s new partnership with ECCAR and the European Association for the Preservation and Promotion of Jewish Culture and Heritage (AEPJ) to work with cities on initiatives related to the annual European Days of Jewish Culture.
“The European Days of Jewish Culture are great way to celebrate Jewish life and traditions in Europe, and they mark a positive approach to the collective fight against antisemitism,” said Krüger, who noted that “fostering Jewish life” was the second pillar of the Strategy on Combating Antisemitism adopted by the European Commission in 2021.
Municipal authorities are being offered support in project development; resources and materials; and financial support for concrete activities on the ground.
If you are a municipal official for city that would like to participate in European Days of Jewish Culture, please contact Krüger (oriana@combatantisemitism.org) for additional information and coordination.
