The Combat Antisemitism Movement (CAM) was recognized on Sunday by the International Observatory for Human Rights and B’nai B’rith Portugal for its ongoing efforts to foster rejuvenated ties between Jews and Muslims and forge interfaith unity in the fight against antisemitism.
Sunday’s ceremony was held in the Oporto, Portugal, where the local Jewish community is a strong supporter of CAM’s interfaith work, including the original cornerstone of these activities, the Mukhayriq Initiative.
In recent years, CAM has cooperated with Muslim partners in organizing interfaith Iftar and Eid al-Fitr celebrations, Jewish-Muslim solidarity rallies, and joint educational and advocacy webinars and social media campaigns, among other events.
“In today’s turbulent world, with antisemitic hatred on the rise in the aftermath of October 7th, the imperative for renewed Muslim-Jewish allyship is more acute than ever,” CAM Director of Community Engagement Shira Granot said. “Contrary to common wisdom, history shows that Muslims and Jews are not fated to be enemies. With courage and forward thinking, we can shift the current paradigm and revitalize Muslim-Jewish relations as an inspiring symbol of inter-communal unity and social solidarity to be emulated by peoples of all faiths and backgrounds globally.”
