Combat Antisemitism Movement (CAM) CEO Sacha Roytman issued the following statement on Friday welcoming the U.S. intervention against the International Court of Justice case being brought against Israel by South Africa:
“When the grave charge of genocide is hijacked and weaponized for political delegitimization campaigns, international law is undermined to the point of meaninglessness.”
“The United States is right to intervene at the International Court of Justice on the side of truth and moral clarity. South Africa’s libelous case against Israel is deeply disappointing coming from a nation whose own history is defined by the struggle against oppression and injustice. A country that once fought so courageously for freedom should be able to recognize when terrorism and crimes against humanity are being committed.”
“Instead, South Africa has chosen to echo a distorted narrative fueled in large part by Hamas propaganda and a broader Iranian disinformation campaign. By ignoring Hamas’ brutal atrocities and its systematic targeting of civilians, this case not only distorts reality but also weakens the credibility of the international legal system.”
“South Africa’s effort is part of a dangerous broader campaign to deny the world’s only Jewish state the right to self-defense while fueling hatred against Jews worldwide. History has shown us where this path leads. We stand firmly by the ‘Never Again’ commitment on which the post-World War II international order, including the Geneva Conventions, was built.”
