Entire Board at UK’s Largest Muslim Charity Resigns Amid Anti-Semitism Scandal

The Times of Israel is reporting that every board member of the United Kingdom’s largest Muslim charity, Islamic Relief Worldwide, has resigned en mass. The resignations comes after revelations that the charity’s new chairman described the Jewish state as the “Zionist Enemy” and labelled Hamas terrorists “heroes.”

The new chairman had recently taken over the position from a disgraced trustee who resigned amid anti-Semitism allegations earlier this summer. Islamic Relief Worldwide’s new trustee and director, Almoutaz Tayara had joined the board last month. The Times revealed that Tayara has previously referred to the leaders of Hamas as “great men” who answered the “divine and holy call of the Muslim Brotherhood.” Hamas is considered a terrorist organization by the United States, the United Kingdom, the European Union and Israel.

Speaking about Hamas’ military wing, Tayara elaborated by saying, “The al-Qassem heroes did not graduate from the military academies of the UK and the US, unlike the rulers and royals of the Arab world who, there, were nurtured on cowardice and allegiance to the foreigners — the UK and the US.”

Terrorism researchers discovered Tayara’s comments in social media posts that he authored in 2014 and 2015. In addition to the Hamas related messages, researches also uncovered a cartoon that he posted showing former United States President Barack Obama donning a blue tie with a white Star of David.

Tayara was previously chairman of Islamic Relief Germany. The organizations German branch told The Times that it had known about his social media posts, but allowed him to stay on as chairman after her deleted them. Germany has concluded that the organization has “significant ties” to the Muslim Brotherhood. The charity has denied this.

Tayara told The Times that he was “deeply ashamed,” elaborating, “I do not support any terrorist movement. I do not support the Muslim Brotherhood or the Izz al-Din al-Qassem Brigades. I am not an anti-Semite.”

Based out of Birmingham, England, Islamic Relief Worldwide operates branches in forty nations and is among the largest Muslim charities on the planet.
