The “Cities Embracing Jewish Heritage” project is a new joint initiative of the Combat Antisemitism Movement (CAM) and the European Association for the Preservation and Promotion of Jewish Culture and Heritage (AEPJ), with support from the Kiriaty Foundation International.
This innovative project invites cities to actively participate in the European Days of Jewish Culture (EDJC2025), an annual event held in September celebrating Jewish heritage through cultural events, exhibitions, and educational activities, similar to Jewish American Heritage Month (JAHM) in the United States.
By highlighting the ongoing contributions of Jewish heritage to European society, cities participating in this project foster intercultural dialogue, promote inclusion, and combat antisemitism with a proactive and impactful approach.
Participating cities will receive support, including expert guidance, financial assistance, networking and educational opportunities, marketing resources, and educational materials, to develop impactful local initiatives.
Each city can design a unique project tailored to its needs, with support from the Cities Embracing Jewish Heritage project manager throughout the process.
Possible activities can include exhibitions, tributes to notable Jewish figures, concerts featuring Jewish music or composers, food festivals, public art displays, and educational workshops, among other initiatives.
The first online information session about the project was held last week, with official representatives of around 20 European municipalities — including Berlin, Vilnius, Nice, and Bordeaux, among others — participating.
