Explosive devices struck an Israeli restaurant in Munich early Friday, with police investigating the incident as a possible antisemitic attack.
The blast hit Eclipse Grillbar in the city’s university district after closing hours. No one was injured. Footage from the scene showed shattered windows, including one bearing a visible menorah, surrounded by broken glass.

Investigators were examining whether the attackers targeted the restaurant because of its Israeli identity and Jewish ownership. Authorities confirmed that this remained a central focus of the case.
In recent weeks, a series of explosions has targeted Jewish and Israeli-linked sites across Europe. Each incident caused limited damage, yet the trend has raised concern. Monitoring groups say the activity may have been triggered by Iranian sleeper cells amid the escalating war in the Middle East.
For nearly two decades, Eclipse Grillbar has operated as one of Munich’s first authentic Israeli restaurants. It serves both Israeli cuisine and dishes tied to the backgrounds of Jews from the former Soviet Union, who make up a significant portion of Germany’s Jewish population. As such, the restaurant stands as a visible expression of Jewish and Israeli life in the city.
Supporters quickly organized a solidarity gathering outside the restaurant. Israeli academic Guy Katz, who is based in Munich and speaks out against antisemitism, described the attack in clear terms. “The attack was cowardly,” he wrote. “It was not only against a restaurant, but against what it stands for.”
He later shared an image of the damaged storefront and issued a direct warning: “Antisemitism must have no place — not here, not today, not at all.”
