During a livestream last Thursday, far-left political commentator Hasan Piker blamed Jewish Americans for antisemitism, suggested their support for Israel could provoke violence against them, and called Israel “Jewish ISIS.”

Piker displayed an image of Michigan State Senator Jeremy Moss, who is Jewish, while discussing an audio clip circulating online. The recording was purported to capture Moss stating his campaign’s purpose was to secure continued U.S. support for Israel. Moss said the clip was fabricated.

Piker then placed responsibility for potential antisemitic violence on Jewish Americans who support Israel. “If Jews in America keep putting this idea out there that they are singularly invested in Israel, eventually someone’s going to come around and take action, not against the State of Israel, mind you, but against American Jews,” he said.

He also accused Jews of worsening antisemitism. “You’re running around basically tying your entire identity to a country that inevitably will be seen as, basically, Jewish ISIS, and you’re saying, as Jews, ‘This is all we care about,'” Piker said. “You’re making antisemitism worse.”

Earlier this year, Piker appeared alongside Abdul El-Sayed, Michigan’s Democratic nominee for the U.S. Senate, at primary campaign events. In a statement on Monday, El-Sayed said Piker did not speak for his campaign but stopped short of calling the remarks antisemitic.
