Federal authorities are investigating a series of antisemitic emails sent to Jewish students at Stanford University shortly before Purim celebrations on campus.
The messages went out to Jewish student leaders, members of Jewish organizations, student journalists, and campus security officials. The sender used the name “exposingstanfordjews.”
Several emails contained explicit antisemitic threats. Most notably, one reportedly carried the subject line “Holocaust 2.0.” In addition, others warned Jewish students not to attend Purim gatherings and suggested their activities were being watched.
Stanford University said it immediately alerted law enforcement. Authorities are now working with federal and local officials, including the FBI, to identify those responsible.
As a result, security increased around Jewish campus institutions and holiday events.
Despite the threats, Jewish students moved forward with their Purim celebrations as planned. Leaders from the campus Hillel chapter said canceling the events would have rewarded those trying to frighten the Jewish community. Instead, they emphasized the importance of gathering and celebrating Jewish life.
The investigation into the threatening messages remains ongoing.
