Police arrested a 30-year-old man in Sarasota, Florida, on Friday two days after he hurled a brick through a synagogue window in what authorities were treating as an antisemitic hate crime.
Investigators identified the suspect as Brayton Laschinger, a Sarasota resident. He wore a blue towel over his head during the incident. He threw the brick through a window at Chabad of Downtown SRQ at around 6 a.m. on Wednesday morning.
“Laschinger claims that the same morning he saw propaganda on social media and that was making him mad,” authorities said.

Laschinger admitted to detectives that he targeted the synagogue because it was a Jewish place of worship. He now faces a felony charge of criminal mischief to a religious building as a hate crime.
A local news outlet put the repair cost above $5,000, citing officials’ estimates. The report said Laschinger’s roommate helped confirm his identity after reviewing surveillance footage.
