‘Hamas, Hamas, Jews to the Gas’: Moroccan Fans Chant Antisemitic Slogan in The Hague After World Cup Loss

A crowd of Morocco supporters in The Hague shouted “All Jews are gay” late Thursday, moments after France beat Morocco 2-0 in the World Cup.

Footage showed men and teenagers waving Moroccan and Palestinian flags as they chanted the slogan outside a health clinic. The crowd also chanted, “Hamas, Hamas, Jews to the gas.”

Local community volunteers first attempted to disperse the crowd before Dutch police arrived and the unrest subsided.

The “Hamas, Hamas, Jews to the gas” phrase is not new. Dutch soccer crowds have chanted versions of it for years, a pattern rooted in rival supporters mocking Amsterdam’s Ajax, whose fans have long embraced the nickname “Jews” over the club’s ties to the city’s historic Jewish community. Similar taunts have surfaced among supporters of clubs in England, Italy and Germany.
