European authorities have disrupted a suspected Hamas-linked effort to prepare attacks against Jewish and Israeli institutions across the continent.
Germany’s Federal Prosecutor’s Office announced that authorities arrested a Lebanese-born man identified as Kamel M. on Friday at Larnaca Airport in Cyprus. He had traveled to the island from Lebanon.
Prosecutors say Kamel M. transported 300 rounds of live ammunition intended for Hamas operatives. Investigators believe the ammunition was meant for planned attacks against Israeli or Jewish institutions in Germany and elsewhere in Europe.
German prosecutors said the ammunition formed part of preparations for “Hamas assassination attacks on Israeli or Jewish institutions in Germany and Europe.”
Authorities plan to extradite Kamel M. to Germany, where he will appear before a judge as the investigation continues.
Arrest Linked to Wider Hamas Weapons Network
The Cyprus arrest connects to a broader investigation into suspected Hamas activity in Germany. On January 23, German authorities arrested Mohammad S. after he arrived in Berlin from Lebanon. Prosecutors say he received the ammunition that originated with Kamel M. Investigators say Abed Al G., a German national, first obtained the ammunition from Kamel M. He then transferred it to Mohammad S.
German authorities arrested Abed Al G. earlier, in October 2025. Two additional suspects — Wael FM and Ahmad I. — were detained at the same time. Prosecutors charged the three men with membership in Hamas and preparing a serious act of violence that could endanger the state. Investigators say the suspects had worked since last summer to obtain weapons for Hamas operatives in Germany.
During the October arrests, authorities discovered several weapons. These included an AK-47 assault rifle, multiple pistols, and large quantities of ammunition. Prosecutors believe the weapons were intended for attacks against Jewish and Israeli institutions in Germany.
Authorities continue to investigate the network as European security services monitor Hamas-linked activity across the region.
