A Jewish cemetery in Barcelona was vandalized over the weekend in the latest act of vandalism targeting Spain’s Jewish community.
Unknown perpetrators desecrated multiple graves in Les Corts Cemetery, with photos showing headstones shattered and torn from their foundations.
Absolutely horrifying to see the Jewish cemetery of Barcelona profaned.
Over 20 Jewish graves smashed.

Jewish Community Warns of Escalation
Jewish leaders in Barcelona linked the attack to the sustained normalization of antisemitic hostility in Spain since the October 7th massacre in Israel. They accused authorities of failing to confront violent.
In a public statement, the Jewish Community of Barcelona described a clear progression. Antisemitic rhetoric became routine at demonstrations. Hostile slogans and posters appeared across the city. Later, a map circulated online marking Jewish targets, including a school.
“This is not random. This is an escalation. From slogans to marking. From marking to threats. And from threats to action,” the statement said.
European Jewish Congress Calls for Decisive Action
The European Jewish Congress (EJC) condemned the incident, warning that such attacks did not occur in a vacuum.
“What we are seeing is not an isolated incident,” the EJC said, describing a familiar pattern in which normalized hate speech leds to harassment, intimidation, and physical acts.
The EJC expressed solidarity with Barcelona’s Jewish community and urged authorities to investigate swiftly and act decisively to prevent further escalation.
We strongly condemn the vandalism of Jewish graves in a cemetery in Barcelona.
What we are seeing is not isolated. It is part of a wider escalation that begins with words, continues with targeting and intimidation and ends in acts like this. When hate is normalized in public… pic.twitter.com/f3KLVIkGvO

The desecration of Jewish graves underscores the consequences of allowing antisemitism to go unchecked. As Jewish leaders warned, hostility that becomes routine in public discourse increasingly results in attacks on Jewish presence.
