Jewish Cemetery in Poland Vandalized for Second Time

For the second time in less than a year, the Jewish cemetery in Tarnow, Poland was targeted with anti-Semitic vandalism. The wall of the cemetery was painted with graffiti reading “AJ”, meaning anti-Jewish, and the Star of David on the wall was painted over.

In July of 2019, the cemetery was also vandalized with anti-Semitic graffiti soon after completing an $800,000 renovation.

The cemetery was established by the Jewish community of Tarnow in 1581 and is listed on the registry of protected monuments in Poland. Prior to the Holocaust, roughly 25,000 Jews lived in the southern Polish city, most of whom were murdered in the Belzec and Auschwitz concentration camps.
