A Jewish man was hospitalized on Tuesday after being stabbed on Kingston Avenue in Crown Heights, Brooklyn, in an incident authorities were investigating as a possible antisemitic attack

The victim, 35, sustained a stab wound to the chest. Police said his injuries were not life-threatening. He was treated at Kings County Hospital and later released.

Antisemitic Slurs Reported During Attack

According to police and local reporting, the incident began with a verbal confrontation between two men. The suspect initially walked away. The victim followed down the block, where the argument resumed and escalated.

During the encounter, the attacker reportedly shouted explicit antisemitic slurs, including “F*** these Jews,” and said it would “be alright if the Holocaust happened today.” Authorities said the suspect then produced a sharp object and stabbed the victim in the chest.

Despite the injury, the victim continued after the suspect across the street and down another block. The assailant fled the scene.

The New York City Police Department (NYPD) confirmed that its Hate Crimes Division was leading the investigation. Police released images of the suspect and increased patrols throughout Crown Heights as the search continues. No arrest has been announced.

The stabbing occurred around the corner from Chabad headquarters, a central institution in global Jewish life. Security in the area has been reinforced in recent days amid heightened concerns following antisemitic violence elsewhere around the world.

Officials Condemn Attack

Outgoing New York City Mayor Eric Adams condemned the stabbing and said investigators were treating it as a potential hate crime.

“Evil, hateful, antisemitic violence must come to an end,” Adams stated. “We cannot let this hate persist in our city, and we will never back down. We are praying for this man and his family, and the NYPD Hate Crimes Division is investigating this incident as we speak.”
