Swedish street artist Dan Park published a photo on Saturday of himself affixing a “Jude Free Zone” sign to the window of a shop in Stockholm. “Jude,” German for “Jew,” was enclosed in a Star of David.

The owner had already hung a notice beside a map of Israel declaring the premises an “Apartheid Free Zone.”

Park was arrested in 2009 after placing an installation outside the Jewish community center in Malmö. It included a Nazi swastika, a perforated plywood heart and a can labeled “Zyklon B,” the poison the Nazis used to murder Jews in gas chambers during the Holocaust. Another image draws a parallel between Hitler and Jesus, depicting the Nazi leader wearing a crown of thorns and shedding bloody tears, with the inscription “He too died for our sins.”

Park denies being antisemitic or racist and says his aim is only to make people think. He claimed his poster made the message of the owner’s existing notice explicit. The owner removed both displays after criticism spread online.

Combat Antisemitism Movement (CAM) CEO Sacha Roytman commented, “Europe, 2026. Have we learned nothing from history? The Nazis had a word for this: Judenfrei, meaning ‘free of Jews.’ It was used to describe places from which Jews had been expelled, deported, or murdered during the Holocaust. 81 years after the defeat of Nazi Germany, we are seeing this language displayed in a European shop window.”

He added, “And right next to it? A sign proudly declaring an ‘Apartheid Free Zone.’ This is what happens when hatred of Israel becomes a justification for openly targeting Jews.”

Roytman concluded, “This is not criticism of Israel. This is the normalization of Nazi antisemitism under the disguise of political activism. Yet here we are, watching the language of the 1930s return to the streets of Europe. History is not repeating itself by accident. It is repeating itself because too many people are choosing to look away.?
