A 37-year-old man has been arrested following a series of antisemitic attacks on synagogues, schools, and Jewish homes in northwest London, England.

The Metropolitan Police identified the suspect as Ionut-Cristian Bold, who has no fixed address. He faces six counts of religiously-aggravated criminal damage, three counts of property damage, religiously-aggravated harassment, and possession of an article with intent to damage property. Bold was too appear before Willesden Magistrates’ Court on Monday.

Attacks Spread Fear in Golders Green

The crimes targeted the Jewish neighborhoods of Golders Green and Hendon. The spree began on August 15. Over several weeks, feces and urine were smeared synagogue entrances, Jewish schools, private residences, and even a car linked to a congregation.

Last Thursday, excrement covered the code lock of a synagogue and school. Days earlier, Shomrim North West London, a Jewish neighborhood watch group, released CCTV footage showing a man throwing liquid onto a Jewish school. The liquid was later confirmed as urine.

Investigators tied at least seven incidents to the same suspect.

Police Condemn “Revolting” Crimes

Detectives arrested Bold in Hendon after extensive CCTV inquiries, according to Detective Chief Superintendent Luke Williams, head of the North West Command Unit.

Police leaders strongly denounced the attacks, calling them both “revolting” and “appalling.”

Superintendent Zubin Writer, head of policing for Barnet, Brent, and Harrow, added, “We will always treat allegations of this nature extremely seriously. These charges follow an investigation by a team of local officers. We continue to offer support to local residents, including members of the Jewish community.”

Jewish Leaders Say Community “Deeply Distressed”

The Shomrim praised the Metropolitan Police for their swift action but stressed the toll on Jewish residents.

“This case has caused deep distress to our community,” the group said.

The charges underscore the growing concern over antisemitic crimes across the United Kingdom since Hamas’s October 7th massacre in Israel. Jewish leaders warn that a toxic climate continues to fuel hostility toward Jews and Jewish institutions.
