A fake Israeli flag fusing Nazi swastikas with a Star of David was raised over New York University’s Washington Square Park campus on Wednesday, as students gathered to mark graduation.
The flag incorporated NYU’s torch logo inside the Star of David, with a swastika printed on each side, enclosed in blue and white stripes designed to mimic the Israeli flag.

The normalization of antisemitism on American campuses is out of control.
Imagine how Jewish students feel seeing Nazi symbols in their university while graduating.

The design cast Jews and Israelis as the new Nazis, a form of Holocaust inversion that falls explicitly under the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) Working Definition of Antisemitism, adopted by more than 1,300 institutions worldwide.
New York City Council Speaker Julie Menin called the incident sickening. “At a moment that should be joyful for students and families, Jewish students were instead confronted with one of history’s most hateful symbols,” Menin said. “Antisemitism cannot be normalized, and those responsible must be held accountable.”
Governor Kathy Hochul said graduation should bring joy, not fear. “Antisemitism has no place in our state, on our campuses, or in our communities,” Hochul stated.
The U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Education and the Workforce went further, charging, “Weak university leadership is allowing radical faculty and terror-supporting student groups to run wild. School leaders need to step up and fight discrimination on campus — as required by law.”
Antisemitism is rotting our higher education system to the core. Weak university leadership is allowing radical faculty and terror-supporting student groups to run wild.

The NYPD notified its Hate Crime Unit on Friday, two days after the flag flew over campus.
No arrests have been made.
