With the first anniversary of the October 7th massacre approaching and a surge of Jew-hatred continuing to peak across the globe, the Combat Antisemitism Movement (CAM) and American Friends of NATAL co-hosted a special forum in New York City on Thursday titled “Navigating Mental Health in the Face of Rising Antisemitism.”
The panel discussion featured: CAM Board of Governors Member Dr. Misha Galperin; Pepperdine University Professor of Psychology Dr. Dity Brunn; lawyer and activist Adela Cojab; and tech entrepreneur and founder of Journey 4Hope Liat Sade-Sternberg.
The conversation was moderated by Laura Ellsworth, partner-in-charge of Global Community Service Initiatives at the Jones Day law firm and co-chair and founder of the annual Eradicate Hate Global Summit in Pittsburgh.
Other speakers included CAM Chief of Staff Arthur Maserjian and American Friends of NATAL CEO and Executive Director Maayan Aviv.
The program explored the critical intersection of mental health support and the fight against antisemitism worldwide, with the participants offering perspectives on how best to address the trauma Jewish communities have endured over the past 11 months and foster collective resilience.
“As we near the one-year anniversary of October 7th, the immense challenges ahead are only growing,” Maserjian said. “The Jewish people have a proud heritage of overcoming tremendous adversity, and this is our generation’s historical moment.”
“We may not have all the answers, but just being here together, sharing our experiences, and learning from the insights of our speakers, is valuable,” he added.
Aviv said, “In today’s world, where we’ve seen a disturbing rise in antisemitism and its profound impact on mental health, it’s crucial that we come together to address these challenges head-on.”
