Combat Antisemitism Movement (CAM) President of U.S. Affairs Alyza Lewin issued the following statement in response to New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s recent speech in which he branded the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) as “monsters”:

“Mayor Mandani’s demonization of the Jewish community continues to escalate. By calling AIPAC ‘monsters’ and suggesting that the organization spends ‘millions in dark money’ to ‘preserve their power so they can turn us against one another,’ Mayor Mamdani traffics in ancient antisemitic stereotypes and puts a bullseye on the Jewish community and its allies.”

‘AIPAC has millions of members, Americans of every faith and background, who recognize that a strong U.S.–Israel relationship is in America’s interest. The mayor’s language puts all of those individuals at risk by falsely painting them as power-hungry monsters determined to undermine society.”

“The truth is just the opposite. Israeli soldiers are fighting America’s enemies. Hezbollah, for example, is responsible for the deaths of at least 260 Americans.”

“As mayor of the city with the largest Jewish population outside of Israel, a community that CAM data shows has faced more than one hate incident per day this year, Mayor Mandani has a civic duty to speak out against Jew-hatred, not incite it. He is failing this test of leadership.”
