A Combat Antisemitism Movement (CAM) delegation made a two-day visit to Mexico City this week, as part of CAM en Español’s continuing outreach and engagement across Latin America.
The delegation included CAM Director of Hispanic Affairs Shay Salamon and Catalan journalist and Chair of the CAM Advisory Board for Latin America Pilar Rahola.
Rahol was invited by the Monte Sinai Synagogue in Mexico City to deliver a series of lectures. In her remarks, Rahola offered analysis of the current situation in the Middle East and its impact on Diaspora Jewish communities worldwide.
Her main lecture was attended by Israeli Ambassador to Mexico Einat Kranz Neiger and leaders of Mexico’s Jewish community. The event paid tribute to the volunteers involved in providing security at Jewish institutions in Mexico.
At the conclusion of the evening, CAM and Rahola were recognized for their contributions to the global fight against antisemitism.
The following day, Rahola and Salamon meet with a group of Mexican Jewish high school students, who shared their experiences facing antisemitism in their own lives.
The trip marked CAM’s third visit to Mexico this year, and came only days after the fourth-annual Latin American Forum Against Antisemitism was held in Costa Rica.
“We had the honor of visiting the community of Mexico again,” Salamon said. “It is always a pleasure to see the level of organization, activity, and prosperity of this unique community, one of the most important in Latin America.”
Salamon added, “We left with a little bit of mixed emotions after hearing the concerns of the young people, and we made it clear to them that we are at their disposal to help with whatever is needed.”
CAM’s outreach in Latin America began three years ago, and since then it has worked diligently to build meaningful partnerships and friendships with influential leaders, lawmakers, diplomats, community organizations, and civil society activists from a diverse assortment of religious, political and cultural backgrounds in the region to combat antisemitism together.
During this time, CAM en Español has emerged as a key player in the battle against Jew-hatred in Latin America, with a growing coalition involved in impactful activities in countries including Uruguay, Brazil, Argentina, Colombia, Panama, Guatemala, Mexico, and Costa Rica, among others.
CAM en Español has organized regional summits hosted by Costa Rica in 2024, Uruguay in 2023, Panama in 2022, and Guatemala in 2021.
