Orthodox Jewish Rabbi Stabbed in London in Broad Daylight
An Orthodox Jewish man in his 50s, Rabbi Alter Yaakov Schlesinger, was stabbed multiple times and badly wounded on Friday in London, the Times of Israel reports. Bystanders were able to wrestle the attacker to the ground preventing any further harm.
Medics stated that the victim was air lifted to a trauma center was in stable condition. London Police claimed they are not investigating this incident as “terror-related,” and have yet to give a motive for the attack.
The attack occurred in broad daylight in Stoke Newington, north London, an area with a large Jewish community. The Community Security Trust, British Jewry’s watchdog and security service, said “we are in full contact with Police and there is no current assessment that this was, or was not, anti-Semitic.”
“A man aged in his 40s has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. He has been taken to hospital after suffering what is believed to be minor head injuries,” according to a police statement.
