A 25-year-old Pakistani man attacked a group of Orthodox Jewish tourists from the United States on Monday at Central Station in Milan, Italy.
Police said the group was checking the train schedule when the man suddenly lunged at them. He punched and kicked one of the tourists, then struck him in the head with a blunt metal ring.
The assailant shouted antisemitic slurs in Italian, calling the victims “dirty Jews” and yelling, “You kill children in Palestine, and I’ll kill you.” Several bystanders stepped in and called the Railway Police, who restrained the man. Even after his arrest, the attacker kept shouting the same insults together with “Allahu akbar.”
The injured tourist received treatment at a hospital for minor wounds. Authorities charged the attacker with assault aggravated by racial hatred. He later admitted to the charges.

Judge Notes “Total Absence of Remorse”
Judge Sofia Fioretta ordered a fast-track trial, citing the “seriousness of the conduct, its brutality, and the total absence of remorse.” During the hearing, the defendant said he was unemployed, homeless, and a regular attendee at a mosque.
His public defender, Gianluca Rozza, requested a lighter sentence because the man had no prior criminal record. The judge, however, emphasized the violence and hatred that motivated the attack.
The Urgent Need for Accountability
The Milan attack was a clear example of the antisemitism defined by the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA): hatred of Jews expressed through collective blame for Israel’s actions and the repackaging of ancient lies in modern form. By shouting “you kill children in Palestine” and threatening to “kill” Jews, the attacker revived the classic blood libel — the baseless accusation that Jews murder children — now disguised as a political charge against Israel. That claim is a malicious distortion that turns a centuries-old antisemitic myth into a modern weapon of hate.
This attack is part of a broader, worldwide surge in antisemitism since the October 7th massacre, seen on every continent and across every medium. Jewish individuals, communities, and institutions are being targeted not for anything they have done, but for who they are.
Governments and civil society must confront this hatred with moral clarity. Upholding the IHRA definition as a global standard is essential to ensure antisemitism is recognized, condemned, and never justified under any political pretext.
