Members of the Palestinian Assembly for Liberation Al-Awda demonstrated outside the “Jerusalem. Your Home. Your Future.” investment expo at the Hilton Midtown in Manhattan on Thursday, waving a Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine terrorist flag while another protester wore a hat bearing a martyr poster for a deceased Palestinian Islamic Jihad gunman.

Jerusalem Mayor Moshe Lion led the event alongside the Israeli Building Center and the Jerusalem Development Authority. It drew about 1,000 attendees. Organizers built the gathering around Jerusalem’s enduring role as the spiritual, national, and historic heart of the Jewish people. They also promoted investment by Diaspora Jews in the city amid rising antisemitism worldwide.

PAL-Awda demonstrators chanted “From the water to the water, Palestine is Arab” and “Brick by brick, wall by wall, Zionism will fall.” They clashed with police over security barriers surrounding the venue. The New York City Police Department (NYPD) confirmed one person was taken into custody and issued a summons on Friday.

“The Zionist mayor, the genocidal war criminal of Jerusalem, is inside right now, he has orchestrated this entire illegal land sale,” activists declared in a PAL-Awda video. A group spokesperson called Jerusalem real estate sales “illegal,” and characterized the city as “occupied Palestinian territory.”

Organizers had withheld the venue location until two days before the event, but PAL-Awda mobilized anyway.

The Manhattan protest was the third time in a month that activists targeted Jewish real estate events across New York City. On May 5, PAL-Awda demonstrated against a “Great Israeli Real Estate” exposition at Park East Synagogue. Six days later, the group returned for another showing of the same fair at Young Israel of Midwood.

At both protests, masked demonstrators called for Israel’s destruction while waving Hamas and Hezbollah flags.
