In a bipartisan initiative, U.S. Representatives Josh Gottheimer (D-NJ) and Rudy Yakym (R-IN) introduced on Thursday a House resolution condemning the phrase “Globalize the Intifada,” labeling it a clear call to violence against Israelis and Jews worldwide.

The resolution urges national, state, and local government leaders to denounce and prohibit the use of this phrase, highlighting its role in inciting antisemitic violence.

Rep. Gottheimer underscored the gravity of the slogan’s meaning, emphasizing that “the Intifada” historically refers to a brutal campaign of terror responsible for the deaths of thousands of Jews. “Words like these incite violence, fuel hate and put Jewish families at risk,” he warned, and emphasized the resolution’s urgency as antisemitic attacks proliferate at an unprecedented rate across the U.S.

The resolution cites recent high-profile antisemitic attacks, including the firebombing in Boulder, Colorado, which killed an elderly woman and wounded eight others, and the shooting that killed two Israeli embassy staffers near a Jewish museum in Washington, D.C.

Rep. Yakym condemned the slogan and the dangerous rhetoric it represents, calling the violent hatred against Jews and Israelis “reprehensible.” He lamented political figures who avoid confronting this issue honestly, stating, “No one, especially in America, should have to live in fear for their safety, or even their life, because of their religion or ethnicity.”

The controversy surrounding the phrase has been further intensified by New York City Democratic mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani, who defended the “Globalize the Intifada” terminology as a legitimate expression of support for Palestinian rights.
