Police in London, England, arrested a 41-year-old man on Tuesday after he allegedly attacked a 77-year-old rabbi in the Stamford Hill neighborhood, home to one of the largest Jewish populations in the United Kingdom.

The suspect confronted the rabbi outside a local pharmacy. He hurled verbal abuse and then pelted the elderly man with chicken bones. Video released by the Jewish neighborhood watch group London North and East Shomrim shows the attacker eating from a chicken box. He tossed the remains at the rabbi and later threw the entire container.

Shomrim described the assault as “completely unprovoked,” calling the man a “deranged individual.” The rabbi was left visibly shaken and traumatized.

Hackney Police confirmed the arrest on suspicion of a religiously aggravated offense. They also noted that the investigation is ongoing. Surveillance footage is being reviewed, and officers are gathering additional evidence.

As of Thursday, the Metropolitan Police had not provided further updates. However, local residents have expressed alarm at the attack and concern for the rabbi’s wellbeing.

Stamford Hill, long recognized for its large Jewish population, has faced a troubling rise in antisemitic harassment. In recent years, incidents have ranged from verbal intimidation to physical assaults. Consequently, many residents report growing unease in public spaces.

This latest assault highlights the persistence of antisemitic hatred on London’s streets. It also underscores the urgent need for authorities to ensure Jewish residents can live safely and without fear.
