Antisemitic graffiti featuring a Nazi swastika and anti-Israel profanities was discovered in a boys’ bathroom at Sharon High School in Sharon, Massachusetts, on Tuesday.

The building was serving as an Election Day polling location.

The graffiti also included other political messages. The Sharon Police Department is investigating and will work alongside the high school’s leadership.

Information from a community member prompted the superintendent’s office to notify the high school, where administrators promptly searched all bathrooms and located the one shown in a photograph. Police also learned of the incident from someone outside the school at roughly the same time school administrators were notified.

“Although much of the graffiti had already been erased, enough remained to confirm the incident,” Sharon officials said in a joint statement.

“We strongly condemn this vandalism and recognize the pain and concern it may cause, particularly for our Jewish students, families, and staff,” Sharon High School Principal Kristen Keenan and Sharon Superintendent Peter J. Botelho wrote in the statement.

School leaders said counselors would be available to students on Wednesday. They asked anyone who may have witnessed what happened or knows more to contact Keenan or another administrator.
