Jewish students at Dartmouth College in Hanover, New Hampshire, faced two antisemitic incidents in recent weeks, with swastikas discovered outside their dormitory rooms.

Dartmouth President Sian Leah Beilock and Chabad at Dartmouth confirmed the incidents took place on September 16 and September 27.

In the latest case, a swastika appeared on a laminated sign outside a Jewish student’s room late Friday night. Campus Safety and Security increased patrols in residence halls, and police launched an investigation.

“This weekend — in the midst of the Jewish High Holidays and as we welcome families to our campus — should be a joyful occasion. Instead, we are again confronting hate in our community,” President Beilock said. She emphasized that the entire Dartmouth community must reject bigotry in every form. “These awful incidents will not define us,” Beilock added.

Jewish Students Respond with Anger, Not Fear

Chabad at Dartmouth condemned the vandalism and voiced the frustration of Jewish students. “We truly hope that the person responsible for these antisemitic acts is brought to justice,” the group wrote on Instagram. “We will not cower and we will not waver in our Jewish pride.”

According to Chabad, students did not feel fear. Instead, they felt anger at repeated efforts to intimidate them. The group also criticized the lack of solidarity from other campus organizations after the incidents.

The first case, on September 16, involved a swastika drawn on the floor outside another Jewish student’s room. President Beilock labeled that act targeted harassment and bigotry.

The appearance of swastikas on student housing during the Jewish High Holidays underscores both the persistence of antisemitism and the urgent need for decisive action. As the investigation moves forward, Jewish students at Dartmouth remain firm in their resolve not to be silenced or intimidated.
