‘These Zionist Establishments Must Go’: Philadelphia Bike Ride Targets Jewish-Owned Restaurants Ahead of Kristallnacht Anniversary

Anti-Israel activists are organizing a Philadelphia bike ride on Sunday, Nov. 8, the eve of the 88th anniversary of Kristallnacht’s 88th, targeting Jewish- and Israeli-owned restaurants.

A promotional flyer declares, “No business for Zionists! These Zionist establishments must go! Not in our city!”

Its wording recalls Nazi propaganda such as “Kauf nicht bei Juden!“– German for “Don’t buy from Jews!”

Kristallnacht — the tviolent pogrom perpetrated by Adolf Hitler’s regime on November 9-10, 1938 — saw hundreds of synagogues burned across Nazi Germany and thousands of Jewish-owned businesses damaged or destroyed. At least several dozen Jews were murdered and around 30,000 were rounded up and sent to concentration camps.

A now-deleted Instagram post said the Philadelphia bike ride was meant to “show these zio business owners that we see them for the disgusting humans they are.”

The event is apparently called “Boycott Ride.” According to City & State, Philly Bike On Your Left appears to be the main organizer, with Philly Solidarity Calendar and Boycott CookNSolo listed as collaborators.

The targeted restaurants include Schlesinger’s, Huda Burger, Mac Mart, Goldie’s, K’far Café and Dizengoff. In an Instagram post responding to suggestions of additional Jewish-owned businesses to boycott, an organizer explained that the restaurants had been chosen because they were within cycling distance of Rittenhouse Square.

A joint statement issued by leading Philadelphia area Jewish communal groups condemned efforts to exclude Jews from the city’s economic and civic life.

“There is a profound difference between criticizing a government and targeting businesses because their owners are Jewish or perceived to be connected to Israel,” the statement said, urging civic leaders to speak out and residents to support the restaurants, describing the campaign as “Jew-Hatred, plain and simple.”
