At a “Day of Action” protest in the Greek capital of Athens on Sunday, anti-Israel demonstrators openly declared support for Hamas, defended terrorism, and voiced antisemitic tropes.
Combat Antisemitism Movement (CAM) Executive Director of European Affairs Shannon Seban documented the protest firsthand and spoke directly with demonstrators.
One woman, wearing a shirt emblazoned with the word “Intifada,” told Seban plainly, “We support Hamas.”
“It’s necessary to use violence,” the woman added.

Asked whether Hamas was a terrorist group, another demonstrator said “no,” insisting, “Hamas is a resistance organization.” She argued that Palestinians had the right to defend themselves against “occupation” using “any means necessary and possible,” including “armed resistance.”
A man wearing a shirt depicting a watermelon wrapped in a keffiyeh, claimed, “We’re not antisemitic.” Later in the exchange, however, he alleged that Jews “bribe politicians,” have “all the media, all the social platforms,” and “controlled the world.”
Another demonstrator asserted, “What happens in Gaza, it’s a kind of Holocaust.”
A woman, who identified herself as Austrian, said, “I don’t want to repeat my grandparents’ mistakes and not stand up against the genocide.”
The Athens rally was one of dozens of anti-Israel protests held across Greece on Sunday. The demonstrations were organized by a coalition of anti-Israel organizations, including BDS Greece.
