Rasha Zaid, a candidate for Windsor City Council in Ontario’s Ward 4, was recorded telling a crowd of demonstrators that “every person that announces they are a Zionist must be locked up” in a video posted online on June 5.
The aesthetician and anti-Israel activist, who cooperates with Windsor4Palestine, added, “We are not free until they’re not among us.”

The footage was shared by the X account Leviathan, which describes its mission as identifying “Jihadis, Antisemites, Anarchists & other threats” in Canada through open source intelligence. Additional clips posted by the account show Zaid marching through city streets while leading chants of “All the Zionists are racists! All the Zionists are the terrorists!”
In a caption accompanying the footage, Leviathan attributed further remarks to Zaid, quoting her as calling Israelis, including professors and doctors, “serial killers on the loose” who “must be held accountable.”
Leviathan also shared screenshots it attributed to Zaid’s social media accounts. One image, captioned “The Zionist Cycle,” alleges that antisemitism and major attacks are staged to gain global sympathy and justify military action. Another post attributed to her reads, “There is no such thing as antisemitic.”
Zaid argued that excerpts of her remarks had been shared without the context she provided, telling The Jerusalem Post that she was seeking accountability for alleged crimes, not the imprisonment of people simply for calling themselves Zionists.
The City of Windsor’s official election portal confirms that Zaid is challenging incumbent councilor Mark McKenzie in the October vote. Her campaign website emphasizes community advocacy and grassroots engagement.
Michael Teper, president and a member of the Board of Directors of several Jewish organizations in Canada, said Zaid’s campaign formed part of an emerging political pattern. He cited Toronto mayoral candidate Paul Salvatori, Toronto Catholic District School Board candidate Bahira Abdulsalam, and Owen Sound council candidate Tamara Sargent as further examples.
“The anti-Zionist activists are desperate to attain any elected office that they can use as a platform for advancing their ideology,” Teper noted. He warned that indifference from Canada’s organized Jewish community could allow the movement to gain a foothold in local government before reaching the provincial and federal levels, where it could “severely impact Jewish life in Canada.”
