Combat Antisemitism Movement (CAM) Public Affairs Officer Natalie Sanandaji — a survivor of the Nova music festival massacre on October 7th — recently visited the University of Wisconsin–Madison Hillel as part of her ongoing international speaking tour to share her personal story.

A Jewish American native of Long Island with Iranian and Israeli roots, Sanandaji transformed her life following her traumatic experience on October 7th, committing herself to speaking out, educating others, and mobilizing action against the rising tide of antisemitism across the globe. In addition to her speaking appearances, Sanandaji also leads CAM’s Iranian Coalition — a network dedicated to promoting freedom and justice for the oppressed people of Iran.

At the University of Wisconsin, Sanandaji recounted her narrow escape from death when Hamas terrorists attacked the Nova music festival site in southern Israel. She described fleeing with friends and spending hours running and hiding, while fellow festivalgoers were hunted down and killed around them.

Sanandaji’s remarks focused not only on the horrors she witnessed on October 7th, but also on why survivor testimony was so vital today, with the barbaric crimes perpetrated by Hamas regularly denied or distorted and antisemitism — including acts mass violence targeting Jews — growing increasingly normalized worldwide.

Sanandaji urged students to question narratives presented as facts. She also encouraged them to engage critically with information encountered online and in academic spaces. “Do your own research, always ask questions,” she emphasized.
