With Israel under attack and the global Jewish community facing an unprecedented surge of antisemitic hatred, representatives of 17 countries will gather in Montevideo, Uruguay, next week for the third annual Latin America-Israel Forum to demonstrate their solidarity with the Jewish state and people at this hour of dire need.
At the summit, taking place Nov. 7-9, top decision-makers, diplomats, and communal leaders from across Latin America will explore ways to further bolster the broad array of ties already connecting the region with Israel and address the challenges and opportunities now being faced in the collective effort against rising Jew-hatred.
The event will also highlight the plight of the around 240 men, women, and children of all ages who were brutally kidnapped by Hamas terrorists in southern Israel on Oct. 7 and are still languishing in captivity in the Gaza Strip.
Vice President of Uruguay Beatriz Argimón will address the opening dinner, and the forum’s speakers lineup includes Chen Mizrachi, who survived the Nova music festival massacre, where more than 260 revelers were murdered by Hamas and numerous others taken as hostages, and former President of UruguayDr. Julio MarÃa Sanguinetti, among many others.
A joint declaration to be issued at the end of the three-day summit will call for international support of Israel in its fight against terrorism and implore world leaders to exert pressure on Hamas to immediately release all of the hostages it is holding.
The declaration will also denounce campaigns to delegitimize Israel, including the BDS movement, and underscore the importance of using the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) Working Definition of Antisemitism to delineate all modern-day manifestations of this age-old societal scourge.
This year’s forum follows previous regional summits hosted by Guatemala in 2021 and Panama in 2022.
