Representative David Schweikert (R-AZ), chairman of the subcommittee, said, “501(c)(3)s are funding hate. Foreign adversaries are funding hate. And even fake online publications are funding hate. It’s up to Congress to prevent tax-exempt organizations from taking advantage of a lack of transparency in order to finance hatred in our country.”

Testimony was offered by: Lara Burns, Head of Terrorism Research at George Washington University’s Program on Extremism; Oren Segal, Vice President of the Anti-Defamation League’s Center on Extremism; and Dr. Charles Asher Small, Executive Director of the Institute for the Study of Global Antisemitism and Policy (ISGAP).
Following the hearing, Combat Antisemitism Movement (CAM) Director of Public Policy Eliana Goodman stated, “Today’s hearing is a positive step toward protecting all Americans from hate. Transparency and reporting are essential in understanding the use of pre-tax dollars and foreign funding links between American non-profits and extremist organizations. To comprehend and ultimately combat the increase in antisemitic and anti-American activism since October 7th, including violence in the streets and on college campuses, we must first expose and limit abuses of our system.”
Goodman added, “We are pleased to see advocacy groups, experts, and congressional leaders working together to safeguard all Americans, including Jews, and are hopeful that this hearing will serve as a catalyst for enforcing laws to stem the tide of this nefarious influence on our society.”
