Combat Antisemitism Movement (CAM) CEO Sacha Roytman on Friday issued the following statement on H.R. 6090, known as the “Antisemitism Awareness Act,” which was introduced last year by Rep. Mike Lawler (NY-17) and is co-sponsored by a bipartisan group of House of Representatives lawmakers. The legislation is being brought for a House vote next week:
“With Jewish students increasingly fearing for their safety as protests driven by antisemitic hatred continue to intensify on college campuses across the United States, passage of the Antisemitism Awareness Act is now more important than ever. The Combat Antisemitism Movement (CAM), along with 30 other Jewish groups, signed a letter on Thursday calling on House of Representatives lawmakers to promptly approve the bill. The legislation, which includes the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) Working Definition of Antisemitism and its 11 accompanying examples, provides the necessary framework to identify and address all forms of contemporary antisemitism at higher education institutions. We look forward to the House passing this legislation that would require the U.S. Department of Education to treat campus antisemitism as a violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act and utilize the IHRA working definition when assessing cases of antisemitism, ensuring Jewish students can pursue their education without discrimination or harassment.”

The Antisemitism Awareness Act will help put a stop to the antisemitic intimidation of Jewish students on campus once and for all. I’m glad this bipartisan legislation will be coming up for a vote next week and I urge all my colleagues to support it. pic.twitter.com/G5mrBYPFnv
