A resident of the Netiv HaAsara moshav in southern Israel has shared with the Combat Antisemitism Movement (CAM) a harrowing account of her family’s survival of Saturday morning’s coordinated terrorist assault on the Gaza border area communities.
The woman asked to remain anonymous, due to trauma she endured.
At around 7 AM, the woman, a devoted mother of two, and her husband awoke to the horrifying sounds of gunfire and screams. It became chillingly evident that terrorists had infiltrated their moshav, which is located just north of the Hamas-ruled Gaza Strip, adjacent to the Erez border crossing.
Without a moment’s hesitation, she and her husband sprang into action, prioritizing the safety of their children above all else. They swiftly ushered their frightened youngsters into a fortified room, locking the door and windows to shield them from the imminent and unknown dangers that lurked outside.
She recounted the tense moments that followed, as the terrorists closed in on them, hunting house-to-house for victims. The attackers attempted to force their way into the safe room, but she and her husband heroically held the door and windows tightly closed, preventing the assailants from gaining access.
In a desperate bid to enter, the terrorists resorted to using a grenade. The explosion shook the house, but the safe’s thick concrete walls and steel door stood firm, ensuring the family’s survival. The attackers ultimately abandoned their fruitless efforts, leaving the family unharmed but deeply scarred by the terrifying ordeal.
Tragically, the terrorists did not stop there. They moved on to terrorize her neighbors, leaving a trail of devastation and heartbreak in their wake. Late on Saturday, Netiv HaAsara identified the names of 15 moshav residents who were murdered by the Hamas invaders.
She vividly remembers the agonizing screams that pierced the air as her neighbors faced their brutal fate.
“We are broken, shaking, and can’t believe we are alive,” she said. “It’s a miracle.”
Despite the terrifying experience and the emotional wounds inflicted upon them, she and her family are now safe and sound, grateful to have escaped with their lives. Their resilience in the face of terror serves as a testament to the indomitable spirit of the people of Israel.
Her chilling testimony highlights the unwavering strength and courage displayed by ordinary citizens when confronted with unthinkable adversity. The community of Netiv HaAsara stands united, determined to overcome the devastation and rebuild for the future.
