Online Retailer Pulls Swastika From Store Following Backlash
July 10, 2020
Online retailer Shein, a fast fashion store that ships to over 200 countries, was discovered to be selling a swastika necklace. The symbol, most famously used by the Nazis, was a shocking addition to their summer jewelry lineup.
The fashion faux pas drew a lot of attention online and quickly lead to the iconic anti-Semitism symbol being pulled. While some called for boycotts, others were more forgiving, noting Shein’s quick acknowledgement of the issue and speedy response.
In a statement to People Magazine, a Shein spokesperson said “As a multicultural and global brand, we want to apologize profusely to those who are offended, we are sensitive to these issues and want to be very clear that we in no way support or condone racial, cultural and religious prejudice or hostility.”
