Watch: The Jewish History of Albania – A Documentary Story of Standing Up to Anti-Semitism
In a historic act, the Parliament of the Republic of Albania, in partnership with the Combat Anti-Semitism Movement (CAM) and the Jewish Agency for Israel has taken an important step in the fight against anti-Semitism and bigotry, by hosting the 2020 Balkans Forum Against Anti-Semitism to create a united front among the Balkans to work together in order to eradicate the scourge of anti-Semitism.
The forum takes place just days after the Parliament of the Republic of Albania became one of the first Muslim-Majority nations to adopt the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) definition of anti-Semitism.
Throughout its history, Albania has stood up to anti-Semitism and bigotry. Albania was the only country in Europe to have a larger Jewish population at the end of the Holocaust than before the war, after valiantly protecting its own small Jewish community and sheltering Jewish refugees from throughout the region.
In this special documentary, learn about Albania’s harrowing efforts to save Jews during the Holocaust and how Albania continues this proud legacy of tolerance and coexistence today. Watch below:
