Dear Friends,

CAM’s global anti-Semitism report this week includes 27 new anti-Semitic incidents (59% far-right, 19% far-left, 11% Islamist, and 11% unidentifiable).

An imam in Miami referred to Jews as the “descendants of pigs and apes,” in a sermon slamming the Abraham Accords. In Massachusetts, a high school football coach was fired after his team used “Auschwitz” and other anti-Semitic terms as play calls.

Europe experienced two physical anti-Semitic attacks. In London a pregnant Jewish woman walking down the street was randomly punched and suffocated by a man. In Rome, a food delivery driver stabbed another man who protested his anti-Semitic rant. In Brazil, a prominent politician promoted the medieval blood libel that Jews ritually sacrifice children.

With a focus on education, Greece will take over the presidency of the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) next week. Despite recent anti-Semitic attacks, the cities of Montreal and Strasbourg rejected motions to adopt the IHRA definition of anti-Semitism – becoming the first cities in Canada and Europe to do so. Meanwhile, there were 5 IHRA definition adoptions this week, including the Italian city of Siena.

Happy Passover to all those who celebrate! The Passover Haggadah asserts that in every generation, Jews must see themselves as if they were freed from slavery in Egypt – and that in every generation people rise up to attack the Jews.

As families gather to retell the story of the Israelites’ liberation from bondage, may we all commit to counter anti-Semitism and all forms of oppression in our world today.

His humanitarian action is considered the greatest civil rescue operation of Jews during the Holocaust.

We will celebrate Carl Lutz’s birthday through a virtual event showcasing his life and legacy. We will also host a brief preview of the documentary “Dangerous Diplomacy” as well as a discussion with the film’s creators.

CAM stands in solidarity with Asian Americans, and all other minorities facing bigotry. Only united can we overcome prejudice. Ending anti-Asian violence will require people to speak up about the growing problem.

Today, March 26, join the Asian American community for a Virtual Day of Action and vow to #StopAsianHate. The first step you can take is to post a message of support for the Asian American community today on social media using the hashtag #StopAsianHate.

Sheikh Al-Issa, the recipient of CAM’s Combating Anti-Semitism Award last year, is spearheading the Muslim World League’s new initiative to combat Islamophobia online. Al-Issa led a groundbreaking visit of imams to Auschwitz and has been outspoken about the urgency to tackle anti-Semitism.

His organization is now raising concerns about Facebook and Twitter providing platforms for purveyors of Islamophobic content. The Muslim World League is urging the social media giants to tackle hateful material via a petition and the hashtag campaign #RejectHate
