GLOBAL ANTISEMITISM REPORT

THIS WEEK'S GLOBAL ANTISEMITISM REPORT

This week, we continued to monitor antisemitism around the world while advocating for more actions to be made.

This week, neo-nazis are planning a protest against a Florida Sheriff who called antisemites a bunch of “scumbags” earlier this year.. The National Socialist Party (NSM), which styles itself as the “largest and most active National Socialist party in America today,” is planning to hold the protest on April 22. This follows a recent white supremacist march in Maine, where the group held a banner that said “Defend White Communities.” While most onlookers were surprised, taking pictures of the group and whispering uncomfortably to friends, the protest demonstrates a concerning pattern in the rise of antisemitic incidents both in the state and nationwide.

In the UK, antisemitic graffiti at a bus stop has sparked concerns within the Jewish community. The vandal sprayed swastikas and the Star of David on the shelter in Sussex Avenue, Canterbury. In Germany, an antisemitic march unfolded in two Berlin neighborhoods with large Muslim presence, Kreuzberg and Neukölln, and centered on the current controversy on the Temple Mount. Israel’s Ambassador to Germany Ron Prosor slammed a rally of mainly five hundred German Muslims who on Saturday blasted calls for the obliteration of Israel and Jews in Berlin.

In the Middle East, amidst rising Israeli-Palestinian tensions, two horrific antisemitic terror attacks took place. Lucy, Rina, and Maya Dee were killed by a Palestinian terrorist in a West Bank attack last Friday; the terrorists in the shooting have yet to be caught. Alessandro Parini, a 35-year-old from Italy traveled to Israel for Easter and was murdered in a Tel Aviv terror attack on Friday. In addition to Parini, another seven British and Italian tourists were injured.

This week’s global antisemitism report highlights 24 new media reports of antisemitic incidents. The total includes 9 (37.5%) from the far-right, 3 (12.5%) from the far-left, 6 (25.0%) with Islamist motivations, and 6 (25.0%) unidentifiable in nature.

WHITE HOUSE ADDRESSING ANTISEMITISM AT THE START OF PASSOVER; OPPORTUNITY FOR ALL FAITHS TO COMBAT HATE

By: BASIL JOHN

“It really is a cautionary tale about what is also going on right now in America. Unfortunately, antisemitism is on the rise,” White House Jewish Liaison Shelley Greenspan said. During this year’s Passover, Christians and Muslims are also observing their own holidays of Easter and Ramadan. Greenspan says it’s a special opportunity for each faith to combat hate together. The administration is also planning to release the first-ever national strategy to counter antisemitism and says it will lay the groundwork for rooting out all forms of hate. Mitchell says that’s a mission his organization embraces.

US ENVOY LIPSTADT: ANTISEMITISM WON’T DISAPPEAR, BUT WE HAVE THE POWER TO ADDRESS IT

By: JACOB MAGID

“In an interview with The Times of Israel, Lipstadt lamented the number of reported incidents targeting Jews while suggesting the success of the administration’s efforts to combat antisemitism shouldn’t necessarily be gauged by them. Instead, she pointed to her efforts to get governments abroad to take the issue seriously, while conceding that success on this front won’t solve antisemitism.
